Week 1

Task A. Art or design work

This sketch is of a Classical facade I drew in an architecture class from last semester. Coming into this course with no real art or design works, I've selected this as an indicator of my visualising and drawing. It's not very detailed or well drawn but the old Sydney General Post Office accentuates the Martin Place square with its old world charm. The presence of its arcade and clock tower make it an even more welcomed sandstone structure.

Task B. Piece of architecture

The Sheikh Zayed mosque in the UAE combines the many Islamic, Aryan and North African architectural elements into an eclectic balance that is fitting for its attempt at creating a sense of unity among the diaspora of Muslims in Islamic nations. The clean, reflective walls and domes that surround its spacious courtyards, evoke a calmness that promotes and elevates spiritual endeavors.

Task C. Beautiful photograph

Corner gate building entrance of Beng Millea temple ruins in Cambodia. The tree with its roots engulfing the decaying remains of a 1000 year old civilisation. Pride of its creators, adorned with intricately carved details, this testament of ancient ingenuity offers a small insight into the culture of peoples who have abandoned, moved beyond their traditions. Without attention, it is left to be swallowed by the indifferent forest around it.
